Description from the seller

Japanese Samurai Tantō by Mukansa Master Seto Yoshihiro – Aoe School Utsushi – Complete Koshirae

An outstanding Japanese tantō forged in 2007 by Seto Yoshihiro, one of Japan's highly respected Mukansa swordsmiths. Swords by Mukansa masters represent the pinnacle of modern Japanese swordsmithing and are highly regarded by collectors for their exceptional craftsmanship and artistic quality.

Inspired by the elegant Aoe tradition of the Kamakura period, this tantō displays refined proportions, beautifully forged steel and a vibrant, meticulously executed hamon. Forged entirely from traditional tamahagane using centuries-old techniques, it embodies the timeless beauty and precision for which Japanese swords are renowned.

Seto Yoshihiro trained under the legendary Living National Treasure Sumitani Masamine, one of the greatest swordsmiths of the modern era. His blades are admired internationally for their flawless workmanship, elegant sugata and outstanding attention to detail. Genuine works by Seto Yoshihiro are increasingly difficult to obtain and continue to attract the attention of serious Nihontō collectors.

The blade is preserved in excellent condition and is mounted in an elegant, complete koshirae that perfectly complements its refined appearance. The quality of both the blade and its mounts makes this a highly attractive piece for collectors, connoisseurs and enthusiasts of authentic Japanese swords.

With a blade length of 27.9 cm, this tantō has graceful proportions while retaining the powerful presence expected of a traditionally forged Japanese blade. It is a beautiful example of contemporary Japanese sword art, created by a master whose work is respected both in Japan and abroad.

A rare opportunity to acquire an authentic Mukansa masterpiece that combines traditional craftsmanship, artistic refinement and lasting collectability.
