Description from the seller
A0000004678
Pendant Watch for Ladies in Guilloché Blue Enamel (c. 1900-1920): We present at auction an exquisite jewel of historic watchmaking, representative of feminine elegance during the Belle Époque. It is a delicate pendant watch (originally designed to be worn pinned to the bodice, on a necklace, or on a leontine) of small dimensions, with a dial of only 24 mm.
The great appeal of this piece lies in its extraordinary goldsmithing work. The entire case is decorated with the complex Guilloché enamel technique: on a background of engraved metal with a pattern of concentric waves, a translucent vitreous enamel in a deep and vibrant cobalt blue has been applied.
Over this enamel, both the front bezel and the back cover display beautiful gold inlays and silver dotting on the surface. The dial, in a hypnotic blue to match, features stylized Arabic numerals and antique gold hands.
Condition (Expert Review)
The piece is in an aesthetic state representative of its age (over 100 years):
Dial and Front Bezel: In excellent condition, with the blue enamel and inlays intact. The protective crystal is present and in good condition.
Back Cover: Shows a chipping/loss of enamel on the lower right edge, exposing the base metal engraved (please review photograph nos. 4 and 5 where this detail is shown with total transparency).
Mechanics: As this is an antique watch, its maintenance or recent service history is unknown. It is sold as a historical collectible piece.
( bidders are asked to view the photo gallery in detail, paying particular attention to the enamel loss mentioned, as the images form an essential part of the expert description ).
Shipping
The item will be shipped carefully protected and securely packed, with insured shipping and international tracking number.
An excellent opportunity to acquire a genuine early 20th-century watchmaking jewel, with enamel work in an absolutely stunning color! Best of luck to all bidders!
