Description from the seller
AMA • Pope (1985) - "Aurora Contrefaçon Originale" - 14/30
When counterfeiting becomes an Original Work.
After the success of the Aurora Borealis series from AMA often copied and on the verge of censorship by luxury giants under the pretext of "counterfeiting", the artist Pope hits even harder.
Here is "Aurora Contrefaçon Originale": a proudly Pop Art lamp, a wink at censorship and a luminous manifesto for freedom of creation.
A unique Pop Art lamp, where the words "DO NOT BUY" and "COUNTERFEIT" can be read in full... Enough to make you want to acquire it even more.
The day: a chrome silver sparkling teddy bear.
The night: a multicolored aurora borealis lights up your interior.
An ironic contrast between prohibition and desire.
Limited edition of 30 copies for 2025, signed, numbered and delivered with AMA certificate of authenticity.
Fast and secure shipping (bubble wrap, tissue paper, reinforced carton) with signature required on delivery.
Specifications:
- 7 luminous colors
- 3 diffusion modes (fixed, fading transitions, simple transitions)
- Power supply via USB cord with switch (supplied)
- Height: 20 cm
- Width: 9 cm
- Depth: 9 cm
Who is Pope?
Pope, cofounder of the AMA collective, develops a singular artistic universe driven by a practice of visual arts since childhood, a high standard for detail and meticulous visual research.
Through sculptures, paintings and installations, he draws inspiration from photography, urban landscapes and everyday scenes, with a sensitive and awed gaze, attentive to both the simplicity and the complexity of the world around him.
Pope mainly draws inspiration from the world around him but also from currents of renowned artists such as Banksy, Keith Haring, Koons, Orlinski, Takashi, Fred Allart, Shepard Fairey, Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Richard Hamilton, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alec Monopoly, KAWS, Pantone, Mr. Brainwash, Blek le Rat, to name just a few.
Whether it’s a gift, a keepsake or your personal collection of contemporary art, you will easily find your favorite piece thanks to the diversity of our works. Indeed, Pope pursues his passion for urban art through street art and pop art (editions limited or not), addressing a wide range of themes such as cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum), the dollar, money, gold, wealth, the sex industry, drug abuse, luxury brands and high fashion, the world of comics and video games, the pharmaceutical industry and medicines, recycling and upcycling, food and fashion industry products (sport, sneakers...).
Brands guide our choices and often our lives without us realizing it. Aware of this impact, Pope enjoys playfully distorting labels such as Louis Vuitton (LV), Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Prada, Gucci, Rolex, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), Supreme, Obey, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, AMG, Mercedes, Nike (Air Jordan), Adidas (Stan Smith), Coca Cola, Pepsi, Marvel and Avengers (Batman, Joker, Superman...), Disney (Mickey, Scrooge McDuck...), Nintendo, Sega, Tintin, Lego, Pokemon, Vans and many others.
Dear bidders, our collective makes every effort so that all necessary information for appreciating the lot on sale is clearly detailed in the listing: dimensions, weight, description and photos... After the sale, no unjustified claims will be considered. Thank you for your understanding.
