Description from the seller
Rubens Capaldo (1908-1987) – "Female Nude Seated" – Tempera on Canvas
This refined work of great expressive force is signed by Rubens Capaldo (Paris, 1908 – Naples, 1987), one of the most cultured, original, and international figures of Neapolitan painting in the twentieth century. Born in Paris but trained and established in Naples (where he was also esteemed as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts), Capaldo masterfully fused the great Neapolitan figurative tradition with the French avant-garde of the early century. His production is famous for an extraordinary color sensitivity and a profound psychological investigation of the human figure, elements that make him a much sought-after author by collectors of Italian twentieth-century art, also because he could express himself with scrupulous precision thanks to his first activity as a ceramist.
The painting tackles one of the most iconic and joyful themes of Capaldo’s oeuvre: the female nude. The figure is portrayed in a classical seated pose, characterized by pronounced and sculptural volumetries that recall the solidity of anatomical form. Executed in tempera on canvas, the work stands out for a vibrant and viscous use of color. Capaldo lays down the paint with quick, juxtaposed strokes, creating a fascinating chromatic play that shifts in hue where the warm tones of the flesh converse with cold shades, emerging from a dark, enveloping background. It is precisely this handling of light that gives prominence and three-dimensionality to the body.
The autograph signature of the artist "Capaldo R." appears on the front. Artist: Rubens Capaldo (Paris, 1908 – Naples, 1987). Title of the Work: "Nudo" (Female Nude Seated). Technique: Tempera on canvas. Era: 20th Century. School: Neapolitan Avant-Garde Painting of the Twentieth Century. Signature: Autograph on the front.
The work presents in good overall conservation, preserving intact the brilliance and intensity of the original pictorial layer. Being an antique painting, the surface shows some small and physiological signs of time, as carefully highlighted in the detailed photographic accompaniment. This patina attests to its authenticity and historicity. Note for bidders: Please carefully examine the rich attached photo gallery, which forms an integral part of the description of the current state of the lot. It has no frame.
I guarantee logistics to the highest standards. Tracked Shipping: Entrusted exclusively to a leading international express courier, with a tracking code provided immediately after departure. The canvas will be protected and wrapped in bubble wrap and other materials and placed in a cardboard shipping box. The lot will travel with full insurance coverage for the total winning value, ensuring a transparent and completely worry-free transaction.
