Description from the seller

The Encounter

Sonny Insinna

In The Encounter, Sonny Insinna builds a scene of apparent simplicity that transforms into a reflection on time, on strength, and on the ability to recognize the other.

A horse, universal symbol of freedom, energy, and movement, interrupts its path to observe a small red-shelled turtle. Their meeting suspends every hierarchy: what is great bends toward what is fragile, while speed gives way to contemplation.

The red shell of the turtle represents the only dominant chromatic element of the work. It is a silent yet irresistible presence, capable of guiding the viewer's gaze and suggesting multiple interpretations: time, memory, life, or that invisible thread that ties every living being.

The composition arises from the encounter between an accurate anatomical study of the horse and an essential painting surface, rich in glazes, abrasions, and marks that evoke the passage of time. The neutral background eliminates any spatial reference, transforming the scene into a dimension suspended between reality and symbol.

As in much of Sonny Insinna's artistic research, animals are not merely naturalistic subjects, but become metaphors of the human condition. The work invites slowing down the gaze and reflecting on the value of the encounter, reminding us that true strength does not lie in speed, but in the ability to stop and recognize the presence of the other.

With its refined essentiality, The Encounter fully represents the artist's poetics, founded on the fusion between figurative realism and contemporary symbolic language.
