Description of the work
In "Valencia is in fashion," Jesús Poveda builds an ironic reflection on the contemporary transformation of the city into an object of desire, a cultural brand and a visual product. Through the representation of two of its most recognizable symbols of the city—the Fallera and the barraca—architecture and identity intertwine; the work explores, from a critical thought, also through a revisiting of some of the avant-garde movements of the 20th century, a contemporary own visual language as certain territories are sometimes turned into stages of symbolic consumption and media projection.
The painting speaks with graphic design aesthetics, illustration and postdigital visual culture, incorporating visual resources that reveal how our perception of places is increasingly mediated by images. In this context, the apparent serenity of the composition secretly hides a reflection on the cultural and social changes of the city.

About the Artist
Jesús Poveda is a Spanish visual artist who lives and works from his studio in Valencia. After a solid career of more than fifteen years as a professional graphic designer, his university training sparked a deep interest in contemporary art and visual thinking. Around 2011 he began to materialize his first works and exhibition projects.

His artistic production sits at the exact intersection between the analog and the digital. Poveda articulates the painting practice by combining traditional workshop methodologies and procedures with methodological processes derived from graphic design.
Nowadays, his research develops through pictorial series where the canvas is conceived from visual thinking. This approach endows his pieces with a symbolic, magnetic and recognizable language, asserting the painter’s craft as an act of resistance and deceleration against the excess of digital stimulation in contemporary times.

Since 2015, his work has been shown in various solo and group exhibitions within culturally significant spaces, with a special focus on contexts linked to contemporary art and sustainability. In recent years, his career has experienced notable consolidation and professionalization.
