Description from the seller
Vienna Regulator-style wall pendulum clock – Germany, late 19th century (circa 1885–1900)
Elegant Vienna Regulator-style wall pendulum clock, made in Germany between the late 19th and early 20th century (circa 1885–1900).
The case, veneered in walnut with beautiful natural grain, is enriched by turned columns, moldings and refined decorative elements, typical of German production of the period. The enamel dial with Roman numerals houses a double-winding mechanical movement with a strike on a gong.
The clock retains its original pendulum and key. Behind the movement is also visible an old paper label, partially hidden, with yellow writings now only partly legible, most likely attributable to the retailer or the clockmaker of the time. The maker of the movement has not been identified with certainty.
Condition
The clock requires mechanical servicing. The striking mechanism works, while the timekeeping movement stops after a short period and needs maintenance.
The case is overall in good conservational condition, with normal signs of age. There are a few small decorative imperfections:
- slight absence of a small ornamental floral element in the upper left of the pediment;
- small blemish in the upper left corner of the crown;
- missing small raised decorative rectangular element on the lower front panel of the door;
- on one side of the base there is a limited finish loss with the underlying wood slightly lighter.
These are modest defects that do not compromise the overall elegance of the clock.
