Red wooden portable barber kit in used condition, dating to 1910–1920, made of Madeira, origin Germany, with dimensions approximately 16 × 26 × 36 cm.
Description from the seller
This worn red wooden box is a portable barber's kit (or old barber's case), common from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. Before modern barbershops and electricity, these professionals carried their own tools to attend clients at home, in public squares, or at military camps.
How Each Tool Worked
Manual Hair Cutting Machine: Uses no electricity. The barber repeatedly tightened the metal handles with his hand to make the blades slide and cut the hair.
Shaving Knives (Narrow): Extremely sharp blades that fold back into a protective handle (usually made of bone, cellulose, or wood). They required great skill to avoid cutting the skin.
Honing Stone/Hide: The dark rectangular block beneath the razor kept the blade edge perfectly sharp before each use.
Beard Brushes: Used with their own soap to create a dense lather, softening facial hairs before shaving.
Oil Bottle: Essential for lubricating the gears of the manual machine and protecting the blades from rust.
Approximate dimensions 16×26×36 cm
