Description

This is an Old Iga style flat matcha tea bowl by Yamamoto Shindo, a ceramic artist from Shigaraki.

Inspired by the powerful aesthetics of traditional Old Iga ware, this piece harmoniously combines the natural texture of the clay with expressive glaze effects.

The surface displays rich scenery created during the firing process, where warm brown tones contrast beautifully with soft green glaze. Fine crazing and natural kiln effects further enhance its individuality, making each viewing angle unique.

Its open, flat form is characteristic of a hirajawan (flat tea bowl), allowing the vibrant color of matcha to be appreciated beautifully. This shape is especially favored for use during the summer tea season.

The tea bowl comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) and an accompanying certificate, providing confidence in its authenticity and provenance.

No noticeable chips or cracks are found, and the bowl remains in overall excellent condition. Please refer to the photographs for details.
