Oil on panel painting Gregge nel bosco by Stefano Bersani (1872–1914), Italy, late 19th century, 38 × 20 cm painting with a 60 × 42 cm frame, hand-signed, sold with frame, in good condition.
Description from the seller
The painting, signed by Stefano Bersani, is an oil on panel depicting a rural/pastoral scene. The style is characterized by dense, textural brushstrokes, typical of late 19th and early 20th century painting, approaching impressionism and realism.
The scene unfolds in a wooded setting. On the left, a flock of sheep is glimpsed, painted with touches of white and ochre that suggest their fleece. In the center, a seated figure, perhaps a shepherd, seems to rest. The whole is immersed in a woodland landscape with dark colors, where browns, greens, and yellows predominate. Light plays a fundamental role, creating reflections on the ground and on the foliage.
The painting is housed within a dark carved wooden frame that enhances its rustic and profound atmosphere.
