Description from the seller

Enter the exclusive world of elite historical collecting with this extraordinary museum-quality artefact. This is not a common metal casting, but a delicately rare wax relief (ceroplasty), a historically intricate sculptural art form that developed during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The central amber-colored wax plaque depicts a complex and sinuous classical mythological composition in high relief, probably a Marine Triumph populated by sea deities, dynamic hippocamps, and celestial putti floating through the air. Mounted on its original dark blue velvet backing and enclosed in a luxurious and monumental oval frame richly carved with acanthus fronds and authentic gold leaf gilding, this piece embodies exactly the evocative, intellectual aesthetics sought by modern Cabinets of Curiosity and Wunderkammer collectors. A truly rare opportunity to own a well-preserved masterpiece of plastic art. Form of art: historical wax sculpture / ceroplasty. Subject: classical Baroque marine triumph / mythological allegory. Materials: hand-modeled monochromatic organic wax, original antique velvet fabric, hand-carved wooden core with authentic gold leaf application (gold leaf gilding). Estimated period: Late 18th – Early 19th century. Exceptional preservation for such a delicate medium. The wax relief remains completely intact, with extraordinarily sharp details, showing no distortions from melting or fractures. It has developed a beautiful honey amber patina. The velvet back shows a fascinating and authentic aging discoloration due to age. The hand-carved gilded wooden frame features splendid craquelure due to age on the plaster base and minor signs of historical wear at the most protruding points, confirming its antique authenticity. Dimensions: 37 cm x 31 cm x 3.5 cm. The lot will be properly packaged and shipped with approved couriers and online tracking. For this lot, shipments outside the European Community are not available.
