Peter Cook - Sacred Whole

Hello and thankyou for viewing my work. I am a popular British sculptor whose work blends contemporary design with the timeless presence of natural materials. I have sculptures included for sale in the Saatchi online art gallery. My unique pieces are defined by clean lines, organic forms, and a deep respect for the raw character of each stone. "Sacred Whole" is a sculpture that holds its own quiet gravity — a tall, slate form that seems both impossibly balanced and deeply intentional.

The piece rises in a slender vertical sweep, its height giving it a sense of presence and stillness. At the centre top sits a large single void — a clean, deliberate opening carved through the mass. It’s not just an absence, it's the point where tension softens and energy gathers.

The front is smooth and infinitely dark, while the back has fine striations and a small mineral shimmer that catches light.

Despite its height, the entire form balances on a single point. That sharp footing gives the sculpture a quiet sense of defiance, balancing in a perpetual state of jeopardy. The weight of the slate meets the precision of the point, creating a moment of poised stillness that feels almost meditative.

The void, the height, and the improbable balance work together to express the idea of wholeness: as harmony between mass and space, heaviness and lift, solidity and openness. It's a reminder that completeness often comes from what we allow in — and what we allow to pass through.
