Description from the seller
Akhenak Hakim is a painter and draftsman. In 2008, he enrolled at the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Algiers. After five years of study, he obtained the Diplôme supérieur d'études artistiques.
He then joined the École Supérieure d'Art de Dunkerque in France, where, after two years of study, he obtained the Diplôme national supérieur d'expression plastique (DNSEP).
In 2019, he also earned a Master 1 in Plastic Arts and Art Sciences from the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
My artistic approach:
Color is at the heart of our existence. It shapes our perception of the world, influences our emotions, and maintains a deep connection with our sensitivity. Far more than a simple visual element, it is a true language capable of conveying sensations that words cannot express.
As Jean-Joseph-Bonaventure Laurens wrote, “color is one of the most powerful means put at the service of the painter artist.” It is the very essence of my work.
My artistic creation revolves around color, while drawing intervenes to structure certain forms. This relationship between drawing and color sits within a long tradition of reflection on painting, where color has gradually claimed its place as the main means of expression.
Resulting from more than 10 years of theoretical and practical research, and over 20 years of experience, my work rests on the layering of materials, textures, and colors applied with various tools. Each work is conceived as a step in an “evolving series,” where matter, light, and color continually dialogue.
My pictorial practice seeks a balance between colors and forms, between light and darkness. Contrasts, flat areas of color, gradients, and dark spaces create a visual tension that invites mystery, contemplation, and the imagination.
Through my paintings, I aim to offer the viewer a sensitive and poetic experience, inviting them to travel freely in a universe where color becomes emotion, movement, and a space of freedom.
