Description from the seller
Marc Gonz
resistance.
In front of one of his paintings, we don’t look at an image. We face an inner landscape — a tactile memory we didn’t know we carried within us.
The way Marc Gonz works consists of burying layer after layer; in this process of burial, a face is formed—a part of the disorder and error, to find harmony. Marc Gonz’s works, through matter and color, present a distorted version of reality. The brutality and density of the brushstroke reveal a visceral work, sometimes vibrant, grotesque and primal, but at the same time it expresses deep emotions that remind us of the ancestral, the spiritual, going to the essence without artifices, an excavation of the soul. With a mix of abstraction and expressionism, he creates a transformation of the human form, where its meaning is transcended. All of this gives us an idea of his complexity and leads us to the deepest parts of the unconscious. The artist himself makes his own paintings, achieving an impasto technique in which he recreates himself in the density of the painting, shaping large, overflowing masses of paint. The volume of the brushstrokes makes the works almost sculptural, creating microcosms that take on their own identity as we approach.
