Description from the seller
Artwork Title: On Sale (Clearance of Memory)
Analog collage on paper, advertisement insert and artistic reproduction on paper
This artwork functions as a conceptually and visually immediate and surprising short circuit. Using the tactile technique of analog collage, the artist analyzes and fuses two worlds seemingly irreconcilable: the solemnity of the seventeenth-century Dutch portrait and the fleeting and aggressive nature of contemporary commercial communication.
The image of the woman, defined by a proud and intimate gaze etched with the passage of time, emerges from a violent chromatic tear.
The juxtaposition and subsequent grafting of the bold 'SALE' sign is not a mere act of profanity; rather, it serves as a deep reflection on the commodification of culture, memory, and identity itself within our hyper-consumerist society.
The stark contrast between the immaculate white ruff, the warm chiaroscuro tones of classic painting, and the industrial red of commercial typography creates an instant and engaging tension.
By stripping the classical portrait of its museum-distant aura, the artwork pushes it into the urgency of modern consumer culture, transforming a historic masterpiece into a moving manifesto of visual protest.
Slasky (b. 1972, Italy) is a self-taught artist who works from Artena, Rome. His practice emerged from the outside
The institutional artistic system - a background in manual work that informs both the materiality of his work and
The precision of his conceptual framework. Active since 2015, he has built an independent presence on the market
Throughout Europe and in Asia before undertaking a decisive shift toward the practice of institutional research.
