THE GRAND BAZAR
The Grand Bazar is a series of paintings that build upon one another. Each canvas can stand alone, but it also forms part of a larger whole.
Shapes, colors, and certain characters pass from one painting to another, as if each work were a piece of a huge puzzle.
Through this series, Skepa blends figures, symbols, objects, and free-form shapes in a spontaneous and vivid universe, between abstraction and imaginary characters.
The Grand Bazar plays as much with visual accumulation as with the very idea of a collection. Each acquisition integrates the collector into a moving cartography where the works converse with one another despite distance.
The project thus transforms the private collection into a collective experience. Possessing a piece of the Grand Bazar means holding a fragment of a global, ever-evolving work.
Skepa is a French artist born in 1978, painter and sculptor, co-founder of the BAFO movement. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, he began his artistic practice with graffiti alongside Jone Hopper in the early 1990s.
His work is grounded in a free, instinctive approach, nourished by urban culture and contemporary plastic research. Over the years, his painting has evolved toward a rougher, more expressive handwriting, blending abstraction, free figuration, and the energy of gesture.
Recognized for a singular and immediately identifiable universe, Skepa develops a powerful, vibrant oeuvre, regularly presented on the international art market.
