Contemporary intervention on an 18th-century portrait
In this work, the refined elegance of 18th-century painting meets the sharp estética of contemporary aesthetics. A noblewoman, portrayed according to the standards of European portraiture of the 18th century, appears with her face completely covered by a yellow bag bearing the inscription: “STRESSED? BUT WELL DRESSED.”
The intervention radically alters the meaning of the original image. The face, central element of every portrait, disappears, making room for a direct, ironic, and deeply current message. The figure loses its individual identity to become a universal symbol of contemporary society, where appearance often prevails over inner dimension.
