Dimensions with frame: 65x85 cm

Proferio Grossi, after classical studies in Parma, moved to Milan, where he briefly attended the Luigi Bocconi Commercial University and then enrolled at the Brera Academy. Here he became the favorite pupil of Atanasio Soldati, his fellow citizen and leader of Geometric Abstraction. In 1948 he joined MAC (Movimento Arte Concreta) and in 1952 in San Marino he won 1st Prize City of San Marino with the work "The Watermelon and the Peasant" and in 1954 he held his first solo show at Studio B 24 in Milan, where in 1957 he organized the 1st Concreta Art Exhibition at the Schettini Gallery.
In the following years Proferio Grossi earned well-deserved recognition with the adoption of object-painting, in an aesthetic discourse that he continued for the rest of his life, alternating with the abstract thread, experimenting with original techniques and solutions, in a dialectical coexistence of expressive moments, sustained by a unitary inspirational matrix. What makes his painting unique and extraordinary is the rhythmic, musical atmosphere that characterizes both abstract and figurative: as if a person were telling the same story in two parallel languages.
Numerous are his solo, group, and anthology exhibitions held by Proferio Grossi in Italian and foreign galleries, from the Camattini gallery in Parma in 1960 to his last in September 2000 in Suzzara. For his artistic merits he was named a member of the Academy of Fine Arts of Parma and of other qualified academies, including Arts Sciences Lettres in Paris. He is written about by authoritative critics in newspapers, magazines, and prestigious art publications: he was among the artists invited in 1986 to create a work for the celebration of the 6th Centenary of the Foundation of Milan Cathedral.
Proferio produced portraits of famous figures, murals, and frescoes in Melzo, Gardone, Diamante, Ciano d’Enza (Matilda of Canossa), in the Rest Home at Traversetolo, in the church of Santa Maria del Rosario in Parma (altarpieces) and in the church of San Lorenzo di Guardasone (Madonna of the Drivers), a locality in the province of Parma.
