Description from the seller
Marc Gonz
resistance.
In front of one of his paintings, we don’t look at an image. We face an inner landscape — a tactile memory we didn’t know we carried within us.
The way Marc Gonz works consists of burying layer after layer; in this process of burial, a face begins to take shape, part of the disorder and the error, to find harmony. Marc Gonz’s works, through matter and color, present us with a distorted version of reality. The brutality and density of the brushstroke show us a visceral work, sometimes vibrant, grotesque and primitive, but at the same time it expresses deep emotions that refer us to the ancestral, the spiritual, going to the essence without artifice, an excavation of the soul. With a blend of abstraction and expressionism, they create a transformation of the human form, where its meaning transcends. All of this gives us an idea of his complexity and guides us on the path to the deepest parts of the subconscious. The artist himself makes his own paintings, achieving a thick impasto technique in which density of paint is recreated by shaping large, overflowing pictorial masses. The volume of the brushstrokes makes the works almost sculptural, creating microcosms that adopt their own identity when we approach.
