Description from the seller
Dantò
Artist: Provence Rubenson
Title: Dantò
Date of creation: May 7, 2025 (inscription on the back of the canvas)
Technique: Acrylic on linen canvas
Dimensions: 60 × 60 cm
Original work, signed on the front and annotated on the back.
Description
This work is a contemporary interpretation of Dantò (Ezili Dantò), a major figure in Haitian Vodou, symbolizing strength, protection, motherhood, and courage in the face of adversity.
At the center of the composition, a heart-like shape is pierced by a geometric structure, while organic lines and spiral motifs unfold across the entire canvas. This coexistence between geometry and movement symbolizes the balance between order, spiritual energy, and unseen forces.
The vivid palette — comprising turquoise, green, orange, violet, white, deep blue, and gold accents — enhances the visual intensity of the work and recalls the chromatic richness of Haitian culture. The hand-painted details, combined with the textures of acrylic, give this creation a unique character.
While not depicting Dantò literally, this work offers a symbolic and personal reading, in which signs, rhythms, and colors convey its protective power and its grounding in Haitian spiritual tradition.
