Description from the seller
Abel Lauvray (1870-1950) - Acropolis, Athene
Oil painting – Hand signed
Abel Lauvray (1870–1950) was a French Post-Impressionist painter and a contemporary of Claude Monet, with whom he maintained a close friendship. Inspired by Monet, Lauvray developed his own style, in which he mainly painted landscapes with a great sensitivity to light and atmosphere. During his long career he created about 1,500 paintings, mostly of the banks of the Seine and other picturesque locations in France and beyond. In this work Lauvray depicted the famous Acropolis of Athens, a reminder of his travels through Greece. Characteristic are the soft colors, the refined handling of light, and the calm, almost poetic appearance of the scene.
