Wall decoration Eolo in mineral stone, from Italy; dimensions 40 cm high, 25 cm wide, 10 cm deep; weight 7 kg; condition good; unsigned.
Description from the seller
Particular sculpture depicting the effigy of Aeolus in all his uniqueness in mineral stone, completely finished by hand (stone casting).
Aeolus is a figure of Greek mythology who, according to the Odyssey, embodies him as the god of the winds, who, meeting Odysseus, gives him a jar that contains all the winds except one, which will lead him home. Odysseus sets off again and after nine days of sailing, when he is already in sight of Ithaca, he is seized by sleep. Then his companions take advantage of this to open the jar, believing it to be full of precious objects. In this way, all the winds were released and a great storm arose, which drove Odysseus and the crew away from Ithaca.
According to Diodorus Siculus, over time Aeolus gained fame for having the power to control the winds, and it is for this reason that in the Odyssey he is presented that way. However, in reality he did not have this ability: what gave Aeolus that fame was rather his skill in using sails and the fact that, by observing the smoke from the volcanoes of the Aeolian Islands, he could predict the wind direction without ever being wrong.
The object will be carefully packed and shipped with parcel tracking.
