Description from the seller
Lot Description
Up for auction is a remarkably well-preserved, authentic Swiss mechanical pocket watch by the legendary manufacturer Omega. Based on the movement's serial number (9254951), this timepiece can be precisely dated to circa 1939–1940, making it a highly desirable piece from the late Art Deco / early WWII era.
This specific model stands out with its gorgeous white enamel dial featuring crisp black Arabic numerals and a special outer 24-hour track (13 to 24) – a layout traditionally favored for military, navigation, or railway operations. The elegant golden Breguet-style hands and the sunken sub-second register at 6 o'clock add to its timeless vintage aesthetic.
The watch features a classic collector's size with a case diameter of 48 mm. It comes paired with a highly unique, decorative double-strand chain adorned with red and black beads and a traditional Ottoman Tughra charm/monogram pendant. This suggests the watch was originally exported to or cherished within the Eastern/Ottoman market, adding an extra layer of historical charm and provenance.
Condition Report
Dial: In exceptional condition for its age. The enamel remains clean and bright with no visible cracks, chips, or hairline fractures. This pristine state is highly sought after by vintage watch collectors.
Case: Solid condition with a natural, light patina and honest signs of wear that reflect its rich history. The hinges are firm, and both the case back and inner dust cover snap closed tightly. The inside of the case back features the sharp, authentic triangular Omega hallmark.
Movement: Visually very clean with the balance wheel moving freely. The watch is currently running and ticking well. As with any vintage timepiece, a professional service is recommended if you intend to use it for daily, high-precision timekeeping.
