Description from the seller
Antique English sterling silver chocolate pot – London, 1742 – George II era
Elegant and rare chocolate pot in English sterling silver, stamped in London with the official marks of the Goldsmiths' Hall.
The piece clearly bears the original marks:
- crowned leopard's head (London);
- passant lion (sterling silver 925);
- year letter "g", corresponding to 1742 (reign of George II);
- silversmith's mark "WP" within a heart-shaped cartouche.
The chocolate pot features a refined repoussé decoration in a rococo taste and retains the original wooden handle, a characteristic typical of 18th-century chocolate services, designed to protect from heat.
It is accompanied by an antique silver tray, also English, not necessarily contemporaneous or originally part of the service, but perfectly aesthetically compatible.
The ensemble represents an excellent testimony to English silverware of the mid-18th century.
Very good condition, with normal wear compatible with almost three centuries of life.
A piece destined for collectors of Georgian English silver and 18th-century art objects.
