Description from the seller

The Waiting
50 × 40 cm
Oil on canvas
2026

In The Waiting, the portrait becomes the site of an interior tension held back. The figure, isolated against a cold, undefined background, turns the gaze toward something that remains outside the visual field. The eyes slightly misaligned, the mouth slightly open, and the tilt of the head suggest a state of emotional suspension, as if the subject were caught in the moment before a revelation, an encounter, or a possible disappointment.

Waiting is not depicted as a passive condition, but as a physical and psychological experience. The face seems to be crossed by unease, vulnerability, and hope—feelings that coexist without settling into a definitive resolution. The expression remains deliberately ambiguous: it could be fear, bewilderment, desire, or the awareness that what is awaited may never arrive.

The close-up construction of the portrait removes any superfluous narrative element and focuses attention on the human presence. The blurred background, lacking spatial references, amplifies the sense of isolation and transforms the figure into a universal image. Time appears to slow down, while the subject remains suspended between a past already gone and an uncertain future.

Through intimate painting and a palette dominated by cool tones and delicate flesh tones, the work reflects on the human condition in the face of uncertainty. Waiting thus becomes the portrait of an inner time: a fragile interval in which desire, fear, and hope blur together.

The work is sold without a frame.
