Description from the seller
Splendid and refined vintage centerpiece (or fruit bowl), produced by the prestigious German manufactory Rosenthal on the famous "Pompadour" model, dating from the 1930s.
The piece stands out for its elegant pale pink background, enriched by rich scrollwork along the shaped rim. The interior surface is decorated with garland floral motifs made in thick pure silver, applied using the "Silver Overlay" technique (silver deposition). This high-quality type of workmanship was often cared for and distributed in Italy by the well-known Milanese silversmith Arrigo Finzi.
Details and Conditions:
• Manufacturer: Rosenthal (Pompadour Model). The back bears the original green overglaze mark under the glaze "Rosenthal / Selb-Germany / Pompadour" with the characteristic geometric crown, certifying its authenticity and production in the period 1930-1938. The ring base is also originally finished in silver.
• Era: Circa 1930 - 1935
• Materials: Finely porcelain and pure silver deposited
• Condition: The porcelain structure is solid and intact, with no chips on the edges or hairlines. Being an authentic piece with almost a century of history, the decoration shows the classic signs of time: the silver shows its natural patina of oxidation and there are some losses/gaps in the thickness of the metal design. In the areas where the silver has worn away, the pink glaze underneath has also detached, revealing the original white porcelain (all clearly documented in the close-up photos).
