Aldo Gentilini was born in Genoa in 1911; from a young age he felt a strong religious vocation that led him to enter the cloistered monastery of Pietrasanta, where he remained for three years studying philosophy, then dedicating himself as a self-taught artist to artistic research, which would lead him to exhibit in numerous shows in Italy and abroad.
A man of faith, he believes that only through art can the divine be reached. And this belief will underpin all his work:
"I try to make the void – Gentilini declared – This void provokes in me a certain catharsis: I observe sensitive values that I respect, I reevaluate them, but I never know how I will fall into the painting and this is the realization of a truth toward the sign never thought."
He was an artist who practiced asceticism to imitate the Saint to whom he was devoted. The two natures, human and aesthetic, coincide perfectly.
