Castellani was the Italian jeweler who started the archaeological revival movement in the mid-19th century. The founder of Castellani, Fortunato Pio Castellani, opened a shop in Rome in 1814. In 1826, he met his lifelong friend and collaborator Michaelango Caetani at a conference where he spoke about recreating the appearance of ancient gold. According to jewelry historians, Caetani "gave Fortunato Pio the idea of imitating and seeking inspiration from ancient jewelers".
