Description from the seller
The Spinario in darkened metal – 20th century – Grand Tour sculpture
Elegant and refined sculpture depicting the famous Spinario, one of the most iconic subjects in classical art, showing a youth attempting to remove a thorn from his foot. The original antique, kept at the Capitoline Museums in Rome, was among the most admired works of the Renaissance and the 20th century, becoming one of the most sought-after models by Grand Tour travelers.
The specimen offered, dating to the 20th century, is made of darkened metal with a pleasing dark patina. The modeling reveals notable execution quality, with particular care given to the anatomy, the hair, and the naturalness of the pose, elements that give the composition a strong classical balance.
The figure rests on an integrated rectangular base, making it ideal both as a decorative element and as a collectible piece dedicated to neoclassical sculpture and the Grand Tour taste.
Overall good condition in keeping with the period. Normal signs of wear, light patina wear, and small surface marks are present that attest to its authenticity without compromising its charm. The photos are an integral part of the description.
