Description from the seller
Item Description
This lot presents a set of two Japanese lacquer natsume, the traditional tea caddies used in chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony) to hold powdered matcha. Both pieces share the same rounded, egg-shaped silhouette with a fitted lid, a classic form long favored in tea culture.
The larger natsume is finished in a rich reddish-brown (tame-iro) lacquer and decorated with gold maki-e roundels enclosing a stylized floral crest (mon), one roundel accented with red lacquer for contrast. The smaller natsume is finished in deep black lacquer and decorated with a flowing design of gold maki-e bamboo, rendered with fine, confident linework across the lid and body.
Both caddies retain a glossy lacquer surface and fit together neatly at the lid seam, characteristic of well-made natsume ware. This set would suit both practicing tea ceremony and display as a decorative pair of Japanese lacquerware.
Size
Height: 7 cm
Width: 7 cm
Depth: 7 cm
Note: measurements refer to the larger (reddish-brown) natsume; the black bamboo-decorated natsume is of comparable size.
Weight

Condition
Both natsume are in overall good used condition with glossy lacquer surfaces. Close inspection reveals minor age-related wear consistent with use, including light surface marks; no cracks or losses to the lacquer or gold decoration were observed.
