Dark Icons Series
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on sight, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new corpus of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is crafted from a multitude of micro-visual fragments generated with current graphic tools, then carefully selected, structured and recomposed by the artist. From a distance, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture made of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular artwork.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by an authenticity certificate. The prints are produced on aluminium with an integrated back-mount. Printing on luminous white vinyl, adhered between two aluminium plates, with a soft UV- and humidity-resistant laminate, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary appearance.
Exhibition History
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops a body of work as an author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. As a singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
