Description from the seller

Image of a cat

Frame size 55 x 45 cm
Panel size 41 x 31 cm

From Oldenzeel Art Gallery.
Labels from the artists' association Sint Lucas Amsterdam.

Cornelis Rudolf Hendrik Spoor, nicknamed Cees, attended the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam from 1884 to 1887, where he studied under August Allebé. Here a new generation of painters developed, among whom the Impressionists Isaac Israëls and George Hendrik Breitner would become the most important.
Cornelis Spoor was less well known in their wake, but highly regarded. He worked successively in The Hague, Rijswijk, Amsterdam and in Heemstede, where he lived at Kerklaan 117. Cees Spoor painted, drew and etched portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, flowers, cats and birds, all largely signed with C. Spoor Jr. He made many portraits on commission.
Spoor was especially praised for the portraits he painted of children, both within his own family and on commission. He also illustrated children's books.
