Description from the seller
Exceptional quality facsimile of the Book of Hours titled Dono d' Amore. Le Ore Capponi Ridolfi.
The XVth-century original is a unique piece kept in the Riccardiana Library of Florence. The perfectly reproduced original in the facsimile is published by Vallecchi in 2007 in 483 copies. The NS is no. 383.
It has been provided with a dust jacket and case + a 64-page commentary by Giovanna Lazzi, which explains the history and technical characteristics of the book, richly decorated. Books of Hours were unique objects that celebrated, usually, the marriages between two members of wealthy families; in particular the husband gave the wife a book of prayers and supplications absolutely unique and expensive, resulting from the collaboration of expert scribes and artists who worked on the initials and the decorations, in this case in miniature. The original book and the facsimile feature a binding in red silk velvet. See photographs for details.
