Victor Simonin (1877-1946)
Victor Simonin, born in Brussels in 1877 and died in Brussels in 1946, was a Belgian neorealist painter.
He concurrently attended evening classes at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and the violin class at the Conservatorium. An accident left him with a handicap in his left hand, after which he devoted himself entirely to painting.
Together with, among others, Alfred Bastien, Auguste Oleffe, Maurice Wagemans, Frans Smeers and Albert Pinot, he formed the artists’ association “Le Sillon”.
He painted mainly still lifes, but also landscapes. Because of his powerful and broad painting style he is somewhat related to Guillaume Vogels. In 1941 he won the A. Oleffe prize.
