French cornucopia frame from the 1930s, carved in golden wood in the Louis XV rococo style, external dimensions 35 cm by 25 cm and internal 20 by 16 cm, in good used condition with minor age-related imperfections.
Description from the seller
It is a 20th-century French cornucopia frame, carved in gilded wood and conceived in the full Louis XV style, where ornamentation becomes movement, fantasy, and theatricality. The piece displays that oval silhouette so characteristic of Rococo, with an outline that seems drawn freehand: intertwining curves, reliefs rising from the frame, and a sense of lightness that makes the cornucopia look almost alive.
The gilding, warm and slightly aged, caresses every relief and enhances the depth of the carving. It is not a rigid or flat gold, but one that plays with light, highlighting the leaves, scrolls, and volutes that whirl around the central oval. The upper composition, more generous and crowned by a set of intertwined volutes, acts as a scenic finishing touch; the lower part, sharper and descending, provides verticality and that elegant gesture that defines the French cornucopia.
The carving, though executed in the 20th century, preserves the Rococo sensibility: exuberant yet gentle, decorative without tipping into excess, with that balance between fantasy and refinement that made Louis XV a eternally seductive style. It is a piece designed to stand out, to fill the wall with its luminous presence, and to bring a touch of reinterpreted French aristocracy to modern interiors.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
