Grand Indian saber:
Total length with guard and pommel: 117 cm
Length of saber and guard: 105 cm, blade 94 cm.
Era: INDIA, 19th century.
The Firangi, derived from the Arabic term al-Faranji for a Western European, was a type of Indian sword that used blades manufactured in Western Europe.
This type of weapon is typical of exchanges between India and the West. Old European blades were sold by merchants often Portuguese.
Due to its length, the Firangi is generally considered a weapon mainly intended for cavalry.
It is a mount known as "KHANDA" typical of the state of Maha Rashtra (Mumbai region) and Rajasthan.
The grip is of Khanda type. It forms a basket whose pommel is extended by a long rod that allows wielding the weapon with two hands.
It is a sword with a particularly long blade, double-edged.
Beautiful straight blade, overall without oxidation, solid with no play.
NB: the guard has a very discreet micro crack, and without consequence.
