Divit pencil case - Brass - Turkey - Late Ottoman period

Ottoman divit (qalamdan), 19th century, made of copper/brass. Traditional portable pen holder with integrated hinged inkwell, used by writers and officials in the Ottoman Empire.

The object is richly engraved with decorative motifs and has a beautiful natural patina that suits its age. In used condition with signs of aging and wear, including a dent in the pen holder (see photos). No visible maker's marks or silver marks. An attractive collectible for enthusiasts of Ottoman and Islamic art.
