Description of the Work
Splendid and powerful work on paper by the Aragonese master Juan José Vera, a key figure of Spanish informal abstraction in the second half of the 20th century.
The work develops through a dense and dynamic weave of gestural brushstrokes. Using a strict monochromatic palette focused on shades of gray, charcoal black, and white, Vera creates a vibrant composition, full of rhythm and expressive force. The chromatic overlay and fluidity of the mark stand out clearly from the neutral background of the paper, concentrating visual energy in a dense and magnetic central nucleus.
This piece fully represents the artist's artistic maturity in the 1990s, a period in which his informal language sheds color to focus on the purity of gesture and the chiaroscuro contrast.
Biography of the Artist
Juan José Vera (Zaragoza, 1926 - 2019) was one of the pioneers and leading exponents of abstract art in Spain. Co-founder of the historic Grupo Zaragoza in the 1960s, Vera dedicated his life to informal and constructivist painting research. Throughout his long and prestigious career he received numerous recognitions, including the prestigious Premio Aragón a las Artes in 2011. The six works are present in important public and museum collections, including IAACC Pablo Serrano and the Zaragoza Museum.
The frame, if visible in the photo, is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, due to its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage it suffers during transport will not be considered for claims or returns.
Notes on shipping and customs
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to EU countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs procedures.
I would also remind you that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT, and customs duties are fully borne by the buyer and will be charged by the authorities of your country upon delivery. I advise you to inform yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively to shipping, if you have the option, personal pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it will eliminate transportation costs and guarantee maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package it to protect the painting during the journey.
