Description of the Work
Splendid and powerful work on paper by the Aragonese master Juan José Vera, a key figure of the Spanish informal abstraction of the second half of the 20th century.
The piece develops through a dense and dynamic weave of gestural brushstrokes. Using a strict monochromatic palette focused on shades of gray, charcoal black, and white, Vera creates a vibrant composition, rich in rhythm and expressive force. The color overlap and the fluidity of the mark stand out clearly from the neutral paper background, concentrating visual energy in a dense, magnetically centered nucleus.
This piece fully represents the artist’s artistic maturity in the 1990s, a period in which his informal language sheds color to concentrate on the purity of gesture and the chiaroscuro contrast.
Biography of the Artist
Juan José Vera (Saragoza, 1926 - 2019) was one of the pioneers and leading exponents of abstract art in Spain. Co-founder of the historic Grupo Zaragoza in the 1960s, Vera devoted his life to informal and constructivist painting research. Throughout his long and prestigious career he received numerous recognitions, including the prestigious Premio Aragón a las Artes in 2011. The six works are present in important public and museum collections, including IAACC Pablo Serrano and the Zaragoza Museum.
If a frame is visible in the photo, it is included in the lot as a courtesy from me and is not part of the sale; it does not determine the value, and given its delicacy it is not covered by insurance. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported, and any damage to the frame during transport will not be considered for claims or returns.
Shipping and Customs Notes
The item will be shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to the standard customs procedures.
I remind you also that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT and customs charges are the sole responsibility of the buyer and will be collected by your country’s authorities upon delivery. I recommend informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if you have the possibility, personal pickup in Geneva is always my preferred option and highly recommended, as it eliminates shipping costs and ensures maximum safety for the artwork. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package the piece to protect the painting during transit.
