Oil painting titled Immacolata Concezione, from the XVIII century Italian school, measuring 85 by 70 cm, depicting the Virgin Mary with Child in a religious theme.
Description from the seller
The painting depicts the Virgin, crowned with stars, resting her foot on a crescent moon (which, according to the Revelation of John, symbolizes Christ's victory over sin and the earthly nature subject to the divine) and simultaneously crushing the serpent, while being lifted upward by the clouds and cherubs.
Also of interest is the figure of the child Jesus, leaning into the maternal embrace, but seated on a halo, yielding a duplicity of meaning between the classic themes of the Madonna and Child and the Immaculate Conception.
In fairly good condition considering its age, the painting has undergone a complete restoration, with lining and replacement of the old frame; on the right side of the composition there are two surface abrasions most likely caused by an accident in handling or storage of the object.
On the left side a vertical crack is visible, for which an ancient damage to the original canvas is hypothesized (perhaps excessive folding) that the lining has not remedied, being perceptible also from the back.
There is a diffuse and uniform craquelure, consistent with the indicated period and, apart from the faults described, no conservation-related problems are evident: there are some scattered restoration touch-ups, as well as faint underlayers and craquelure of the painting surface, elements that are nevertheless physiological for the era of the painting and that do not compromise the legibility of the depiction, yielding a structurally solid, aesthetically pleasing and well-preserved work.
The oval measures 85x70 cm in its two geometric axes, with a thickness of 3 cm.
The photographs are an integral part of the description.
Careful packing, trackable shipping.
Costs and shipping times cannot be ruled out higher due to export procedures and/or locations not normally reached by shipping services (especially outside the EU).
