Description from the seller
Federico Alibrio – "Inner Abyss" (2026)
Description of the Work
"Inner Abyss" is a fascinating ceramic wall sculpture created by the artist Federico Alibrio, as testified by the autograph signature and the year etched directly into the terracotta on the back. The piece depicts a majestic whale, imprinted in a sinuous, plastic movement that seems to cut through the air as if it were deep water.
Entirely coated with a deep semigloss black finish, the surface captures the light, highlighting the complex rough and grooved texture on the whale’s belly and back, evoking the animal’s natural physiology and the primal power of the marine abyss. The tail, molded with remarkable material realism, gives dynamism to the entire figure, making it a work with a strong visual and emotional impact.
Concept and Artistic Meaning
The title, Inner Abyss, elevates the whale figure to a powerful psychological and existential metaphor. The whale, long a symbol of introspection, memory, and a journey into the recesses of the psyche, becomes here the vehicle to explore our personal abysses. The contrast between the dark, solid, and externally structured ceramic and the pure natural terracotta left untouched on the back suggests an intrinsic duality: what we show to the world versus our most intimate and hidden essence. It is an invitation to dive into our depths without fear, finding elegance and grace even in the darkness of our lived experience.
A unique work of its kind, perfect for enriching interiors with minimalist, contemporary design or art collections focused on cutting-edge ceramic sculpture.
The piece, unique and original ceramic work, was modeled in clay and fired, subsequently ceramicized with special-effect glazes. The work will be shipped with careful packaging and an accompanying certificate of authenticity.
The Italian artist Federico Alibrio, born in 1995, is always seeking inspiration to grow through new experiences.
Graduated in Sculpture in 2021 from the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania, he works in sculpture and painting. He has participated and continues to participate in high-profile cultural exhibitions and symposia, demonstrating commitment and seriousness in approaching the sculptural practice.
Reality itself is the greatest source of inspiration. His passions include: wild animals (sensitive to endangered species) and trees. His objective is to showcase the beauty of nature.
