The series SURGE captures the dynamics of elemental movements – lively, present, and expressive. The works live from the tense contrast between matte, raw cotton and intensely pulsating, deep acrylic layers. Broad brushstrokes and expressive gestures subtly convey the physical energy of the painting process on the canvas. While powerful, flowing forms dominate the compositions, targeted color accents elsewhere bring lively, vital impulses. Because the primed canvas is deliberately left unprimed in numerous places, the works breathe and develop a fascinating, tangible depth.
