Antoni (Antonio) Vidal Rolland was a Catalan figurative painter active in the first half and middle of the 20th century, specialized in still lifes, flowers, fruit, and genre scenes.
Basic biographical data:
Birth: Barcelona, 1889.
Death: 1970.
Education:
He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona, where he was a pupil of Professor Ruiz, father of Pablo Picasso, which links him to the Barcelona academic tradition of the late 19th century.
Work and themes:
He specialized in still lifes and figures, with frequent floral and fruit motifs (peaches, etc.), within a decorative and genre line highly appreciated in the Catalan market.
He also did oil portraits on panel (tàblex), usually signed in the bottom right corner.
He participated in numerous Barcelona, national and international competitions, indicating some exposure during his lifetime, though not reaching major museum fame.
