Portrait titled Bildnis einer jungen Dame, an oil on canvas work from 19th century Germany, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Munich School around 1900 – Portrait of a Young Lady
Oil on canvas, verso labeled “W. Leibl”
Expressive oil portrait of a lady on canvas, probably German / Munich School, circa 1890–1910. It depicts a young woman with reddish hair, dark clothing and a thoughtful expression, with her hand resting on her cheek.
The painting impresses with its refined, tonal painting technique, atmospheric light, and the appealing modeling of the face, hair and hand. Especially the reddish-gold strands of hair and the pale hand create strong accents against the subdued background.
On the back, the canvas is marked with “W. Leibl” as well as an illegible additional inscription. A secured expert opinion or catalogue raisonné entry is not available; the designation is therefore explicitly documented as a back-side hint and not as a verified attribution.
Technique: Oil on canvas
Era: probably 1870–1900
School: Munich School / German Realism
Dimensions without frame: ca. 60 × 50 cm
Dimensions with frame: ca. 80 × 65 cm
Frame: gold-colored stucco/wood frame, with signs of aging
Condition:
Aging condition with visible craquelure, surface soiling and yellowed varnish. The frame shows bumps, losses and signs of wear. Overall decorative, authentic overall impression. A professional cleaning could likely significantly improve the color impression.
The sale is made in the existing condition according to the photos. The photos are part of the description.
Value-added tax will not be shown separately – art & used items special regulation under § 25a UStG.
