Biography:
Kobalt, born in Paris in 1970, embodies the journey of a polymath artist whose creativity has extended from electronic music to contemporary graphic art. Coming from a family where art was already present thanks to his father, a draftsman, Kobalt discovers at a very young age his first passion, music creation. This passion guides him in his youth, and his early talents lead him to make a bold decision: to invest the money intended to fund his higher studies into creating his first album.
Distributed by EMI, the album does not meet the anticipated success, but it marks the beginning of a rich artistic career full of experimentation.
Parallel to his music career, Kobalt enters the world of advertising as a copywriter for the iconic Playboy magazine. For many years, he brings his creativity to the publication by creating and producing the magazine’s advertising campaigns.
The turning point in his career comes in 2005 when he becomes a cameraman, exploring a new facet of the visual world. In 2007, he discovers a passion for photography, adding another artistic string to his bow. In 2010, he successfully establishes his own photo agency, highlighting his entrepreneurial spirit.
In 2017, Kobalt makes a radical choice to sell his agency to fully embrace graphic art, influenced by his son, who has become a major figure in global street art. A pioneer of computer-assisted artistic creation, Kobalt stands out with nearly 3000 works sold in galleries and online to date.
His artistic approach is marked by bold use of humor, provocation, and anachronisms, with a particular penchant for reworking magazine covers, a style that makes him instantly recognizable.
Despite the digital era, Kobalt has chosen to stay off social networks, preserving a certain privacy. Today, he uses all available digital tools to bring his creations to life, continuing to push the boundaries of artistic expression with a subtle blend of inspiration, innovation, and humor.
Influences: Pop Art | Comic Art | Vintage Advertising | Street Art | Retro Poster | Science Fiction | Space Art | DC Comics | Collectible Artwork | Warhol | Lichtenstein | Banksy | Obey | Magritte | Basquiat
