Original oil painting by Olaf Kaulen, titled Aussichten, in multicolor Surrealist style, 80 by 100 cm on canvas, signed in oil at the lower right, dated 1997 and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
The original oil painting (80 x 100 cm on canvas, signature lower right in oil) was part of an exhibition and was honored in the Dithmarscher Landeszeitung with an article.
The painting is bursting with vitality and power; the blue, softly veiled sky is calm and unagitated, and the distant gaze inevitably also influences the space.
In focus is a muscular, dark male figure viewed from behind, standing next to an oversized, quilted couch. In the background, a gigantic white plateau-style boot can be seen. This combination of objects in unnatural size relationships and unfamiliar contexts is characteristic of the surrealist technique of displacement and juxtaposition.
Inspired by Salvador Dali, the otherwise autodidact artist Olaf Kaulen began an intensive surreal series with a plain but strikingly padded leather couch, which took the place of the folds often depicted by old masters (clothes, curtains, tablecloths). This also happened with a certain wink, yet in a very detailed portrayal.
Artist Olaf Kaulen, born 1968, lives and works in Hamburg
