Ramón Vilanova is a Spanish artist born in 1947, whose work is usually linked to urban scenes, landscapes, and costumbrista compositions, executed with expressive brushwork and atmospheric sensitivity.
The work represents a procession scene in a traditional urban setting. In the composition you can see popular architecture with a tower or belfry in the background, sloped-roof houses, and a crowd gathered beside a street or small bridge. The loose, textural brushwork gives the scene dynamism, with a palette of grays, ochres, and bluish tones that reinforce a melancholic and evocative atmosphere.
The frame is gilded, in a classical ornamental style, with relief decoration of vegetal motifs and scrolls. It features an inner mat or lining in ochre, as well as an inner golden molding that directly frames the painting.
