Description from the seller
Traditional handmade Indonesian ceremonial hat – painted braided bamboo/palm – 20th century
Description: Beautiful authentic handmade traditional hat from Indonesia, made from finely braided natural fibers (bamboo or palm leaf) and entirely hand-painted.
The hat is richly decorated with colorful floral motifs and traditional figures from Indonesian mythology, executed in a characteristic style reminiscent of Javanese and Balinese folk art. The raised central knob with black-and-white spiral decoration forms a striking centerpiece and gives the object a particularly decorative character.
Originally such headgear served as protection against the sun, but richly painted examples were also used at festive occasions and as a status symbol. Today they are beloved as collectibles and wall decor.
Condition: Good vintage condition with normal signs of use and aging appropriate to the age. The painting is largely well preserved and contributes to the authentic appearance.
A special ethnographic object that elegantly combines craftsmanship, traditional braiding technique, and Indonesian decorative art.
The hat will be carefully packed and insured for shipment with track and trace!
