Jörg Immendorff was one of the most significant German artists of the postwar era. As a pupil of Joseph Beuys at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he developed a politically engaged and visually powerful artistic language. His works combine social critique, historical themes and personal symbolism. He became particularly known for the series "Café Deutschland", in which he themes the German division and the artist as a witness of his time. Immendorff worked with strong colors, surreal scenes and recurring motifs such as the monkey, which serves as his alter ego. In addition to his artistic activity, he was also a professor, most recently at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. His work remains an impressive testament to the power of art as a political and human means of expression.
