Pensieri, an oil painting by Antonio Asturi (1904–1986) from Italy, dating to the 1960s, 66 × 51 cm, limited edition, hand-signed, sold with frame, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Born in Vico Equense, Asturi was a predominantly self-taught painter. While remaining deeply tied to his Campanian roots, he managed to develop an autonomous language that broke away from the overly rigid and stereotyped canons of the 19th-century Neapolitan school. Alongside the famous markets, the alleys of Naples, the views of Venice, or the Parisian glimpses of the Fifties, one of his most intimate and powerful themes has always been the human figure, particularly that of the humble, the passersby, the beggars, and the elderly. As critics of his time wrote, he learned to observe humanity with a moving and deep gaze, capturing the dignity of toil and the passage of time. Artwork of Levita provenance and in excellent condition, complete with a frame.
